Rentplus Homes offers a route to homeownership for those unable to save a deposit.
Tenants rent their home for 5,10,15 or 20 years, paying an affordable rent set by the council. They use the rental period to save and to build a strong credit history. When they buy the home they are living in, Rentplus will gift 10% of the home’s value to put towards their savings.
Prospective tenants must meet the criteria set by the local authority which is usually to have a local connection to the area (work or family connections).
Applicants must be in employment, education or training and have aspirations to buy their own home within a 5,10,15 or 20 year period.
A financial assessment will be carried out finding the best purchase timescale (5, 10, 15 or 20 years).
If applicants meet the criteria, they will be walked through the formal application process by the team at Rentplus Homes.

Affordable rent to buy is not Shared Ownership.
When tenants purchase their Rentplus home, they’re buying 100% of the property.

Our homes are designed for aspirant homeowners who cannot save a deposit. We work closely with councils to allocate affordable rent to buy homes to local residents who have lower or middle incomes, often in key worker roles.
Applicants must usually have a local connection to the council and working, in employment or education/training. Most councils require applicants to be registered on their local council’s choice based letting scheme.
How to apply for a
Rentplus Homes property
Working closely with your Local Authority, we look at who is eligible to apply for a Rentplus Homes property in your area.
Depending on your area, we may advertise Rentplus Homes through your local Choice Base Letting Scheme. You should contact your local council to find out about the letting scheme in your area.
In some cases, the local authority may wish to target those households who are in key employment groups, such as key or essential workers including teachers, NHS workers or emergency services and armed forces personnel.
Rentplus Homes can help you if you are in housing need, struggling to save for a deposit or if you need help accessing a more affordable mortgage in the future. It will give you time to clear debt and to build up a strong credit rating.
There are no age limits but applicants must be in paid employment, or in education or training and have aspirations to buy their own home within the next 20 years.
Our properties are advertised on our website and the local choice-based lettings scheme for each council: we may also advertise through our social media, Rightmove, Zoopla and local estate agents.
Our properties cover a range of sizes, usually one to three and occasionally four bedrooms. They are built to a high standard of quality and designed for contemporary living. The properties benefit from a range of energy efficient features.
